The Kisan Credit Card (KCC) gives farmers a flexible credit limit for farming needs, instead of a separate loan every season. It is offered by commercial banks, regional rural banks and cooperative banks.

Who can apply

  • Farmers who cultivate their own land, individually or jointly.
  • Tenant farmers, oral lessees and sharecroppers.
  • Self-Help Groups and Joint Liability Groups of farmers.
  • Farmers in animal husbandry and fisheries, for working capital in those activities.

What it can be used for

Crop cultivation, post-harvest expenses, marketing of produce, household needs of the farm family, maintenance of farm assets, and allied activities. The card is usually valid for five years, and you can withdraw and repay within your limit as needed.

Lower interest for prompt repayment

Under the Government's interest subvention scheme, short-term crop loans taken through KCC carry a concessional rate, with an extra incentive if you repay on time — bringing the effective rate down to as low as 4% a year, within the limit set by the Government. Collateral is generally not required for agricultural loans up to ₹2 lakh. Your bank will confirm the current limits.

Documents usually needed

  • Filled application form and passport-size photographs.
  • Identity and address proof (Aadhaar, voter ID or similar).
  • Land records — in Karnataka, the RTC (Pahani) — or, for tenant farmers, proof of tenancy or cultivation.
  • Details of crops grown and area under cultivation.
  • Bank may ask for a declaration that you have no KCC with another bank.

How to apply

You can apply at your bank branch, or online where the bank offers it — for example, Union Bank of India's KCC portal. If you would like help collecting land records and preparing the application, our team can assist and follow up with the bank.

Limits, rates and documents are decided by the bank and government schemes, and can change. The bank's decision on eligibility is final.
